Trauma Therapy

You Don’t Have to Relive It to Heal From It.

Trauma can leave lasting emotional and physical imprints, whether it stems from a single overwhelming event or years of chronic stress, neglect, or harm. You may find yourself feeling unsafe, stuck, disconnected, or easily triggered—even if the traumatic experience happened long ago.

At GC Counseling, we offer trauma-informed therapy that meets you with safety, compassion, and deep respect for your pace. Healing is possible—and it doesn’t mean you have to “revisit everything” or figure it out alone.

What Is Trauma?

Trauma isn’t defined by what happened—it’s how your nervous system was impacted. Common sources of trauma include:

  • Childhood emotional, physical, or sexual abuse

  • Domestic violence or toxic relationships

  • Accidents, medical trauma, or natural disasters

  • Grief and loss

  • Racial, cultural, or systemic trauma

  • Identity-based trauma or marginalization

  • Emotional neglect or chronic invalidation

You may be living with symptoms of trauma if you experience:

  • Flashbacks or intrusive memories

  • Hypervigilance or feeling constantly “on edge”

  • Trouble trusting others or maintaining boundaries

  • Dissociation or feeling numb/disconnected

  • Anxiety, depression, or self-esteem struggles

  • Difficulties with sleep, relationships, or emotional regulation

Our Approach to Trauma Therapy

We offer a trauma-informed, client-centered approach that honors your experience and sense of safety. You are always in control of the pace and depth of the work.

Our therapists use evidence-based treatments such as:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

  • Trauma-informed CBT and DBT

  • Mindfulness and grounding techniques

  • Narrative therapy and strengths-based exploration

  • Parts work/inner child healing (when appropriate)

You don’t need to “tell the whole story” to begin healing. Sometimes the most important work is helping your body and mind feel safe again.

Healing Isn’t Linear—But You Don’t Have to Do It Alone

Trauma can impact your sense of identity, safety, and worth. But with the right support, you can move from surviving to thriving—on your own terms.
